Alumni Gathering and Tour: The Huntington, Southern California

Courtauld alumni in southern California are invited to come together and see the latest developments at the beautiful Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens.

The event will begin at 2.00 pm, when Director of Art Collections John Murdoch (Courtauld staff member from 1993 to 2002) will welcome the group.  The afternoon will begin with a visit to the Virginia Steele Scott Galleries of American Art, opened in May 2009, which will be led by Jessica Smith, Chief Curator of American Art, with contributions from Hal Nelson, Curator of American Decorative Arts and Kevin Murphy, Associate Curator of American Art.  Following this tour, afternoon tea will be served on the beautiful loggia of the Huntington mansion where Catherine Hess, Chief Curator of European Art, will introduce the Huntington Art Gallery, formerly the residence of the Huntingtons, which reopened after major refurbishment and expansion in May 2008.  She will then lead a visit to highlights of the new display, supported by Melinda McCurdy, Associate Curator of British Art. At approximately 4.45 guests may enjoy a private visit to the Charles Rohlfs exhibition in the MaryLou and George Boone temporary exhibitions building accompanied by the curators.
